Monte de São Domingos

Description

At approximately 400 meters above sea level, monte de São Domingos (St. Domingos hill) is a prime location for landscape observation of the region and its geomorphology. Having the Douro as the protagonist, from here one can see at north of the Douro, the city of Porto, the town of Melres and the Penafiel region. At south of the river we can see the cities of Gaia, Pedorido, Oliveira do Arda and Raiva, as well as the river Arda and its mouth into the Douro. Geologically, it is an important site. The monte de São Domingos is an integrated quartz ridge in a group of reliefs, which in the area of the Montanhas Mágicas®, begins in Pedorido and goes to the São Macário’s mount and São Salvador’s mount crossing, at northeast of Arouca municipality.
